Software engineer Eric Johnston has been writing computer and video games professionally since 1989. He first started working as a game programmer for Lucasfilm Games (which would later become LucasArts) while attending U. C. Berkeley College of Engineering, studying EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science). That first project was a puzzle game called Pipe Dream. Afterward, he continued working for Lucasfilm, on the Macintosh versions of their now-classic SCUMM adventure game series.

A year before graduating from Berkeley, EJ also worked part-time as a software engineer at NASA Ames Research Center, on magnetic tracking systems. After college, he went to work for a computer game company called Spectrum HoloByte in the emerging field of real-time 3D graphics, while still writing games for LucasArts on the side. EJ eventually joined LucasArts full-time to start up their first hardware-accelerated 3D game project, Shadows of the Empire.

In 2004, EJ worked with Make-A-Wish and Ben Duskin (an 8-year-old Leukemia patient) to create Ben's Game, a free video game about fighting cancer. This game has been translated into nine languages, and reached more than 250,000 people. EJ and Ben were honored by the Dalai Lama in 2005 for their project.

EJ and his wife Sue live in San Francisco. Aside from programming, EJ has also worked as a stunt man, flying trapeze instructor, and windsurfing instructor. While at work, he spends his time on core engine programming, optimization, and training other engineers. Away from work, he's usually doing random acrobatics, astronomy, electronics tinkering, or trying to make sense of quantum computation papers.

EJ's game credits span more than 20 years, and include Pipe Dream (1989), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Loom, The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Falcon MC, Putt-Putt Joins the Parade, Star Wars: Rebel Assault, The Dig, Shadows of the Empire, Wars: Episode I - Racer, Escape from Monkey Island, Starfighter, Jedi Starfighter, Bounty Hunter, RTX: Red Rock, Ben's Game, Battlefront II, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and The Secret of Monkey Island, Special Edition (2009).
